About Paul
Paul Bayly is an experienced leader in both a civilian and military settings, including being a retired Colonel in the New Zealand Army. Adventurer Paul has been involved in a number of expeditions, becoming a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society of London, and has kayaked the Zambesi River, and authored a biography about adventurer/explorer David Livingstone.
An international economic recovery and infrastructure expert, Paul has applied his skills in a time of environmental crisis, leading national recoveries in post-hurricane conditions. Roles held include Chief Executive of the Recovery and Development Agency in the British Virgin Islands, and Permanent Secretary for Infrastructure and Transport in Fiji.
Central to Paul’s multi-dimensional career is the efficient and strategic use of resources to better people’s lives. He has honed his commercial acumen over a 30-year career which spans merchant banking, private business, and corporate advisory, and is a Chartered Fellow of the Institute of Directors.
Starting his career as a banker, Paul then worked with the United Nations, across Southern and Eastern Africa as a UN specialist, and in Syria, Israel, Lebanon, and East Timor as a military observer. Following sixteen years as Managing Director of Cranleigh, a merchant bank which he co-founded in 1996, with offices in New Zealand, Australia, and Singapore. Paul enjoyed an international career in infrastructure advisory taking him to United Kingdom, Australasia, and the Pacific.
